Updated March 2018. When we thought of PAROLA (locally called) or Lighthouse, the first thing that caught our attention is a structure built in order to give light to the sea for fishermen and guide for mariners in navigating the ocean.
The Lighthouse Bagacay Point or locally dubbed as Parola ng Bagacay Point — which according to source this was named after its home – Bagacay, Catarman, Liloan. A tower loft standing at 72 feet and it gives light to about 17 miles to the ocean. Built intentionally to provide a guiding light to Cebu sea for the sailors and local fishermen.
The light point was originally established in 1857 and built in 1904 under the executive order issued on July 28, 1903 by William Howard Taft. The President of the Philippine Commission (in his time) and later appointed US Governor General who came into the country in 1900.

If you choose to visit the Parola after taking to Papa Kit’s, you’ll be passing along a prominent seaside haven — a high-end village or subdivision of Amara land. While you are approaching the rotunda, then turn at the lofty lighthouse or choose to go at Sugba-Sugba Sa Parola. And if you feel like you wanted to hang-out after roaming around the place, there’s a sole bar and restaurant located nearby the Lighthouse. You can have your leisure time for a while at the Sugba Sugba sa Parola instead.
How To Get There?
To commute: You need to ride on a jeepney (# 25) bound for Lilo-an and remind the conductor and or driver to drop you off at the Liloan Municipal Hall or at the front of San Fernando Rey Parish Church – Liloan, Cebu. Beside the church, head to town’s sports complex, ask for some locals if uncertain then look for tricyle going to Catarman and hint for going in Parola. Or you can hail a motorcycle for hire commonly dubbed as “habal-habal” to help you get through at this destination. Once you get closer, you can see the Parola – it’s about 5-minute walk.
