Pope Francis may possibly visit Cebu in 2016 for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress in a statement recently released by CBCP.
This clear and lucid statement is according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in an article posted recently in their website. “Around 15 Vatican officials will visit the Philippines to conduct an ocular inspection of the venue for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) in 2016.” The IEC is held every four years and the next event will be happening on the 2016th.
But, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma earlier said the Vatican has already made communications to them since last March this year. Though no disclosure yet of the real plan but he has strong belief that Pope will visit the country in the province of Cebu.
However, some of priests and parishioners believes that the pope is coming over during the said occasion.
Fr. Soquiño iterates the Basilica has invited the pope to grace the Sto. Niño’s 500th year anniversary on December 2015, but the Vatican had asked that it be moved to January instead in time for the International Eucharistic Congress.
In according to the recent news, Vatican officials will make a visual inspection of the venue of the International Eucharistic Conference 2016 in Cebu. Archbishop Piero Marini, president of the Pontifical Committee on the IEC, will lead the team to Cebu City on Sept. 5, 2013. — In a recent article posted from Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) website.
