Day 1 – I was trying to ignore the speculation amidst our struggles while we were heading up closely at the highest peak of MT. LANAYA. I heard an obscure passage coming from my peer(s), it’s somewhat an ambiguous message which I did not bother the thought seriously though I was having little doubt of it silently. My mind was preoccupied and not really showing off my facial confusion during that moment to Baruch and even to my climb buddies, am just keeping my motion towards the finishing line. Later that moment, I was trying to ask some clarification with my former travel buddy just to get things cleared off some confusion bout what I heard a while ago.
Climbing is, above all, a matter of integrity” — Gaston Rebufat
OMG! Would it be possible by traversing down the trail, back again? All I thought that there’s another means or an easy trail of going back at the bottom of this hill? Uh! Will I defeat over my almost depleted effect over again? Or maybe am just too over reacted… as the saying goes to myself. After then I’m totally convinced, whatever the course may lead me – I shall take it with no regret.
It was almost 5-hours (estimated) of trekking, ascending, assaulting and persisting… the group had finally able to reach at the premier destination. But before we reached that particular land, If I’m not mistaken six (6) of us were heading in a wrong direction, while the other seven (7) buddies were already arrived at the camping site. We were behind by them for short mile due to some circumstance as mandated by our body for vitality sake. We were in the middle of nowhere in a dense forest, like in a horrible situation thinking about negative thoughts over my head. Clock checking it was almost 6:00pm then, obviously it’s getting dark. Thank God! With the help of our climb buddies Jona & Jeanette where they’ve found ways and so we reached the other buddies.
At the Camping site. It was an ‘Overbearing Pride’ after all… my perception as a novice mountaineer after the difficult trails and breathe taking moment of our unforgettable journey. Some says, “our parents never pushes us to climb that hill/mountain and or trekking to rivers”. If this is our choice and we must live by it and stand our purpose… Above all, this is not just wandering but it has to be brought with passion, courage, cautious and perseverance.
Day 2 – Call time before 6:00 AM. Witnessing the sunrise at the “Kalo-Kalo Peak”, photo can be seen below in watermark. T’was such a very catching and over bearing pride that moment standing at the highest peak in 360 degrees. Enjoying the magnificent view and took photos of important scene and angles from the top.
Around past 8:00 in the morning, the group finally settled, breakfast finished and backpacks were ready for another challenging part by traversing down the trail that we’ve gone from Day 1. But prior leaving the camp site, we took a group pose picture as memory (other photos can be seen in my other blog site). 🙂
Groups preparation. Garbage were cleared up, an ounce of drinking water (spared) ready, gadgets, gears and other necessary stuff… checked! Oh the camera, checked! Then backpacks donned to ourselves. For this I shall “No retreat no surrender” as the saying goes over my head. Masyadong O.A. nah aketch! Presumably all were ready to conquer the Legaspi trail again. Whew! as in Whew na Whew! Goodluck to me! Then, took a silent prayer for a while…
The privilege to take a short glimpse and took a photo of the so called ‘Kalo-Kalo Peak’. That is one of primary purpose of the climb, a must able to stand at the peak of it and there it was justified. An amazing spot. A remarkable scene from above. Can catch the view from afar, Negros Oriental province – Mt. Talinis & Mt. Canlaon, for both sides, Osmena Peak and other neighboring place of Alegria.
Then at 9:00AM the trek had begun. What a great feeling indeed seeing all the individuals ready and carrying his own backpack though. After few meters of walking, we lost our way again, however, the group have been able to find out where the correct path after few minutes. Then pursuing and marching along in a plain trail hillside attempt within our convenience zone.
With myself trying to annoy despite of feeling weakness, I was just thinking of a song He Will Carry… a motivational and inspirational song while on our way down at the most difficult slopes. Then singing over my head ♫There is no problem too big, God cannot solve it…♫
Then I slipped for one time and almost the second time, shameful but it was part of it. Just like a baby who wants to learn walking and fall at times. Persistently the group have to take some obligatory course of action including: crawling, gripping, roping, hand to hand assist, holding on to strong roots and whatever it is available just to conquer each passing difficult trails. Though traversing is much faster than ascending the hill, but traversed was more difficult task by down hill slopes.
Adventurists or mountaineers who wishes to escape through this hill are encouraged to bring ropes for emergency cases, like traversing down the Legaspi trail was really among the toughest uneasy task and surely one thing it isn’t a joke. Associated by carrying heavier loads of your backpack is another factor for inconvenience. These things should be taken into consideration.
Why does people seems to choose this kind of activity? When there are most pleasant jobs available out there rather than this kind of hobby? Why choose mountains, hills and or rivers? When these days there are rousing hotels and malls which you can find it more convenience and easeful living. Considering there are some grievance situation most of the time when assaulting to one of arrogant mountains around the globe.
My musings during the climb. Just think of your chaos life though. Think of your dramas in life in the past and or in present times. How have you been able to surpass all those perplexing moment of your life, where in fact you had almost put yourself to surrender thinking like no other solutions to it? So, this task means would be easy for you to make. For me, climbing up in a mountain or so is our challenge not just rendering to stimulate our body, but it keeps us free our minds from worries and problems out from this chaotic world we live.
Then finally… At 1:00Pm to exact we were able to reach at the highway about 5hours traversing down from the highest peak of Kalo-Kalo. We spent an hour of rest at a kiosk along side of the road and took some refreshments at nearby convenience store just walking distance. Obviously all were so tired that moment.
From then, the group took another side trip for going to Mainit Spring and Montaneza Falls at Municipality of Malabuyoc, Cebu. Heading next to Alegria town. And through this journey we got to connect, meet new friends and befriending them.
